Houston elects openly gay mayor, Annise Parker

From Yahoo.com:

HOUSTON – The first openly gay person to be elected mayor of Houston says she hopes her victory in Saturday's election will change how the world views the city.

Houston is the nation's fourth-largest city and the biggest to elect an openly gay mayor.

Mayor-elect Annise Parker spoke Sunday at a press conference after defeating former city attorney Gene Locke with 53.6 percent of the vote in the hotly contested runoff election. Parker has been serving as city controller. She takes office as mayor Jan. 1.

Parker calls her election a historic day for Houston's gay and lesbian community. She says she hopes it shows the world that Houston is a diverse international community that welcomes everyone.

The city of 2.2 million has about 60,000 residents who identify themselves as gay or lesbian.

I heard the turnout for this mayoral race was pathetic. Anyway, no CBT, we don't "hang" openly gay people in Texas.

This post is really gay.

SPURS FAN said...

It is. Openly gay.

She looks less like a lesbian than Merlin looks like a fag.

So Spurs, what's wrong with Houston? I thought the Great State of Texas was staunchly Conservetive?

SPURS FAN said...

She looks like Hillary Clinton.

SPURS FAN said...

I don't know what's "wrong" with Houston. I think only like 250,000 people turned out for the election.

SPURS FAN said...

And I hear that she is the most "fiscally conservative" out of the two choices. Well, I didn't "hear" that. I read it.

CBT said...

The article I read put turnout at 172,000.

CBT said...

A Democrat, female, lesbian, Mayor of Houston. Sounds more like Austin.

CBT said...

And she does look like my girl Hillary.

CBT said...

152,000 turned out according to MSN.

SPURS FAN said...

It does sound more like Austin. And a 152,000 turnout is pretty sad for a city of 2 million.

Hey, Spurs!
I just thought I would be nice and leave you a comment so that you would have a fresh one on here and your wait wouldn't be so long.
It's that Holiday Spirit I have.

GO San Diego!

SPURS FAN said...

Hey, thanks bitchhog. I appreciate the sarcasm. And as far as San Diego? Yeah, once again, the Cowboys showed just how pathetic they are.

SPURS FAN said...

And I don't think sarcasm is really a part of the "Holiday Spirit."

Sorry.

BH said...

There really wasn't any sarcasm. I sincerely did not want you to wait all night for someone to comment.
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

SPURS FAN said...

Well, nevermind then. I appreciate you leaving a comment out of what appears to be charity. I'm over here ringing bells with a little cup to put coins in too if you want to stop by.

And no problem getting back to you so quickly. I was just so happy someone left a comment.

Hey, what's up kb? You do have "mad sizing skills" indeed. I like her lapel jacket. I'm thinking of getting one myself.

I'm going to check out the second part right now. Also, do you mean I should read it or cry when I read it?

That was a great ending kinkyb!tch, but I'm just wondering how they paid for all of her needs. I read where the insurance benefits were running out, but damn, that had to cost a ton of money.

Really was an inspirational story.
